Tim Shields - July 29, 1966 - October 10, 2012
Tim left us too soon because of cancer. But he didn't waste a minute of his time here on earth. Tim was a loving husband during 20 years of marriage to Kathie, a father to Tyler of whom he was so very proud and to daughter Katelyn who was the apple of his eye. Timmy was a softball coach for many years; a teacher of the game he loved. He was a mentor to family members, friends, and his children’s' friends and I’m sure he impacted many without knowing it.
Tim's physical stature was representative of his personality; he made a big impression. He was a man that simply cared about people more than most of us realized. He had a large heart, a contagious smile and a terrific sense of humor. These attributes allowed Tim to easily meet new people and also allowed a person to be comfortable around him. By the end of a conversation with Tim, it was likely he learned more about you than you did of
him, but you left that conversation feeling as though you were friends.
Timmy was a family guy. He loved the gathering of people, the celebration of successes and enjoyment of milestones along life’s journey. He was the center of the family unit, the “Patrone”. Tim was the one person that
seemed to be consulted on everything related to family issues, sought out by friends for advice, a helping hand or just a listening ear. Despite this central figure role he was a humble man. Tim was selfless; never mentioning or complaining about sacrifices he made. Tim was a man who gave respect to all and deservedly garnered respect from those who truly knew him.
Tim was a person of great faith. He was an active parishioner at St. Teresa’s. He often spoke about Father Joe’s homilies, the topics Father broached or the lessons he was trying to teach. Tim’s faith gave him strength to carry him through the tough times.
Although Tim is now in heaven, his life was a living example from which we can all learn. We are better people not from what others do for us, but for what we do for others. Tim showed us how to approach life with a positive attitude and spirit; how to be a person who does the right thing; to be responsible for oneself and be respectful of others.
This cache honors Tim, thanking God for the gift of his life, his spirit, his love of gathering with people to share good food and conversation as well as his unconditional love of his family. A man with a smile in his eyes and a selfless determination for life. Many times in life we are asked to describe someone in a word or phrase. This is never an easy task. But to those that knew him, who benefited from his generosity, and those kids that he mentored; the one word is genuine. Batter up Tim.
